THE NIGTH ALWAYS WINS

On the shield of the Nasrid Kingdom which the Albaicín neighborhood of Granada belonged, for hundreds of years the maximum «God always win» is readed. Now the symbols that identified the reign have transmuted into a striking universal claim who is illuminated at dusk, staining the ancient brightness characteristic of this unique place: the white lime of its walls and its dark corners.

When the settlers who forged this dream world were forced to leave their homes and suffer the diaspora nightmare, the identity of this ingrained suburb remained in the hands of the other gods, victorious winners of great appetite and heart betrayer.

Since the neighborhood was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO 25 years ago, the neo-deities of tourism and urban speculation received a priority cult, promoting the conversion of the neighborhood into a theme park, domesticating and forgetfullitng it

After that new reconquest, the dawn does not reach the streets of Albaicín, there is no end of the night in the oldest neighborhood of Granada. And the night always wins. And cypresses know it. And as penitent devotees rise to heaven, imploring the original God to come back and win.

“The Night Always Wins” is a photographic project that shows a futuristic-dystopian and undesirable landscape of one the most ancient neighborhoods of Granada (Spain) called Albaycin, it’s legacy comes from the Nasrid Kingdom. The horrible monster of the gentrification and also the overtourism has changed the shining beautiful image of Albaycin´s tipical streets and houses, turning them into a dark-neon-lights-iluminated places. Now the neighborhood is another overtouristics places of the world.
